I was 100% sure that when I woke up Wednesday morning, Hillary Clinton would be the next president of the United States. While personally I was never a fan of president-elect Trump (for obvious reasons of character), I did like many of his policies.
Trump and Israel
In the beginning of his candidacy Donald Trump made a strategic error regarding Israel. He said that he would remain neutral in negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians. This led to a firestorm of criticism. He was not approaching the issue as someone who knows the facts, the bias against Israel and the double standards she deals with, but as a businessman making a deal. One thing Trump cannot understand yet is the Middle Eastern culture of negotiations. Even Bush and Obama fell prey, being naive before the skilled manipulators of several Middle Eastern Muslim countries, for whom lying is not a sin, but an art form.
But then Trump gave his AIPAC speech and “hit it out of the park.” Pro-Israel Christians and Jews were raving about his passionate support for the Jewish state. Mike Pence, only days before the election, released a video addressed to Republicans in Israel expressing unwavering support for the Jewish State. In addition Trump has promised to do something that no president has yet done: move the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
Is there a Correlation?
Bush was elected on a pro-Israel campaign platform, and was blessed as a leader. But then he pledged to divide Israel’s land. Things went downhill from there regarding his presidency. Obama from the beginning was hostile towards America’s best friend. Now his party is out of the presidency, and his entire agenda from Obamacare to Immigration Amnesty has been rejected by the American people.
There will be tremendous pressure on Trump to back down from his bold pledge of support for Israel, and most who have gone before him have given in to the pressure. It doesn’t take a prophet to tell Donald Trump how things will go for him, and thus America. If he stands firm, God will bless him. It is really that simple.
Great Britain was once the greatest power on earth. They used to say, “The Sun never sets on the British Empire.” But then she turned against Israel during the 1920s and 1930s. Britain closed Palestine to Jewish immigration from Europe just as the Nazi final solution to the “Jewish problem” began to be carried out. This sealed the fate of many. The sun soon set on the British Empire.
Harry S. Truman was the first world head of state to recognize Israel on May 14, 1948 and began a long legacy of firm friendship between the US and Israel. Is it a coincidence that the US replaced Great Britain as the greatest power on earth?
I for one will be praying that President Trump will not cave in, but stand strong in the face of opposition when it comes to Israel. It will mean blessing for the US and for Israel.
