Christmas in Magdeburg

Tikkun Global

Jerusalem, Israel

The recent terror attack at the Christmas market in Magdeburg, Germany is despicable.

Millions of Muslims sought asylum in Europe after the "Arab Spring" ISIS wars. Among those seeking asylum were moderate Muslims and radical Muslims. Europe opened her arms to both. It is not easy to discern between moderates and radicals.

In the recent attack, a Saudi Arabian immigrant drove his car through a jam-packed crowded street market. Over 200 wounded and at least 5 killed. The man claimed he was an ex-Muslim, even extremely "anti-Islam." His stated motive was that he was offended that Germany had not given sufficient care to Saudis seeking refuge.

His own psychological make-up is obviously bizarre and dysfunctional, but that is not the issue here. If we take that logic a little further, we could say that it is Germany's fault. Despite pouring millions of dollars into helping refugees, the Germans just didn't do enough.

That kind of logic is perverse. Yet international media are already spinning the story to warn against a right-wing response to immigrants. No condemnation of immigrant violence, only warning against a right-wing response. Instead of dealing with the issue of ridding Europe of terror, the discussion is shifting to what is wrong with the Germans.

It is hard for intellectual, democratically minded people to fathom that radical Muslims believe in killing Jews and Christians, destroying Israel, America, and all Western civilization. It is inconceivable. Yet that is what they have been saying repeatedly, openly, and unabashedly for decades (even centuries).

This obvious truth doesn't fit anywhere in the Western, liberal worldview. Therefore, it is ruled out. Imagined explanations are raised to fill the vacuum. To deal honestly with this ugly reality will require a total change of concept, a mentality shift, a new narrative.

The Christmas market is a cultural event, not primarily religious. Yet its symbolic meaning is clear. This is a pillar of Christian culture, an integral part of Christian Europe. Targeting a Christmas cultural event is definitely anti-Christian in nature.

Will this terror attack cause Europeans to wake up to the danger they face. I hope so. However, the current political climate makes that unlikely. Will Europe be able to recover true Judeo-Christian moral values? I pray for that to happen. But again, the odds do not seem likely.

Without a widespread spiritual renewal, European society is doomed to collapse and be conquered by Muslim radicals.

Merry Christmas, dear Germans. Rachel is still "weeping for her children" (Matthew 2, Jeremiah 31). The "murder of the innocents" is always an inseparable part of the Christmas story. May the real Jesus (Yeshua) be the focus of this season!
