Discerning the voice of the Lord versus the voice of the enemy requires knowing the Scriptures. In this third teaching on the temptations in the wilderness, Ariel looks at Yeshua’s final test from Matthew 4:8-9:
Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. And he said to Him, “All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me.”
Yeshua knew God’s promises to Him. For over 30 years He had meditated on verses such as Psalm 2:8:
Ask of Me, and I will give You the nations for Your inheritance, And the ends of the earth for Your possession.
What made Him realize that it was not God speaking to Him this time? What did He know about God that enabled Him to discern the truth?
God is relational. He is the one who initiates relationships. He loves first (Romans 5:6-8). He does not do business-like transactions without first declaring His lovingkindness. God IS love (I John 4:8,16). He desires to be in a relationship with the whole world. He wants to SHARE His glory with us. God always works by grace and not works, both in the Old Covenant and the New. On the basis of that grace, He invites us into a relationship that produces blessing and the works of faith (Ephesians 1:3-6).
